Singapore, 21 March 2016 – With the launch of the new Volkswagen Passat Variant, there is now a total of five distinct Passat models available in Singapore.

The eighth-generation Passat – winner of the prestigious ‘Car of the Year 2015’ award in Europe – was introduced here in July 2015 as a 1.8-litre sedan. Two trim levels, Comfortline and Highline, were available at its debut. It immediately received very favourable media reviews, with The Straits Times saying, “The Passat moves like a charm, with noise, vibration and harshness levels rivalling those of a proper limousine.”

With the arrival of a new 2.0-litre engine option in early 2016, the Passat sedan line-up gained two additional models, the Exclusiveline and R-Line. Aside from offering a powerful 220 PS engine, these models premiered the Active Info Display, a fully digital replacement for conventional instrument dials – a first in this class of car. Other innovations include Dynamic Chassis Control and the Dynaudio Confidence sound system with 12 speakers and a 16-channel digital amplifier (Exclusiveline).

The arrival of the new Passat Variant now completes the range and gives buyers an exciting new option in the estate car segment. This is the first time that the Passat Variant is being sold in Singapore as a series model. The car is available exclusively with a 2.0 TSI engine and R-Line exterior styling. It comes equipped with all the features from the sedan, with the addition of 19-inch alloy wheels and Area View, which enables the driver to see an all-round bird’s eye view of the area around the car.

“The Passat has an illustrious 43-year history, and is today one of the most successful mid-sized cars in the world,” said Ricky Tay, the Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Singapore. “Now, with two body styles and two powerful yet efficient TSI engines available, car buyers in Singapore can choose from a wider range of Passat models than ever before.”

The launch price of the Passat Variant R-Line 2.0 TSI is $182,300 with COE.
