22 April 2016
Singapore. In a spectacular launch event held on the Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, over 800 Porsche owners, enthusiasts, and special guests witnessed the unveiling of the latest 911 model range from Porsche. Six high performance variants were launched at the event – the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, 911 Carrera 4S, 911 Targa 4S and the top-of-the-line 911 Turbo. Those in attendance were treated to stunning multimedia launch sequence, a forward-looking display that truly exemplified the underlying spirit of performance and innovation that drives every new model Porsche release.
The 911 has been breaking boundaries and setting benchmarks since 1963, and it has earned and maintained its legendary status as the flagship model that Porsche is renowned for. This new unveiling captures that same spirit and is the result of decades of experience distilled into one compact and purebred sports car that makes one steady step forward in future. The design, engine, chassis, interior – a considerable number of components in the new 911 have been improved and enhanced to deliver an even better driving experience and more driving comfort and pleasure.
Already a pure pleasure to drive before, the new 911 is now fitted with an all-new 3.0 litre twin turbocharged flat-six engine, which means that the new base model of the range boasts a respectable 370 horsepower, 20 more than the existing naturally-aspirated engine. Acceleration is now even better than ever before, with smoother gear shifting so that you can focus on what really matters – enjoying the drive. One step up from the Carrera , the Carrera S model delivers 420 horsepower and reaches a top speed of 308/km/h. More impressively, it blazes through the tarmac from 0-100km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds with Sport Chrono Package- the first 911 in the Carrera family to undercut the magic four-second mark.
A good illustration of the most striking exterior design change in the new 911 – the redesigned rear deck lid with vertical grilles. Not merely an aesthetic transformation, the grilles were modified as such to increase air intake to cool the engines, which turn increases fuel economy. The air vents on the front bumper have also been reshaped to feature active flaps that automatically open and close while the car is in motion to reduce drag and achieve maximum aerodynamic performance.
The new 911 now also has Porsche Active Stability Management (PASM) available as standard option together with new standard wheels with reduced rolling resistance. Ride height is lowered by ten millimeters, stability during fast cornering is improved, and more precise response characteristics ensure that driving comfort is further enhanced.
“At first glance, it would be easy to overlook the enhancements that differentiate the new 911 from its predecessor, but Porsche has always been about the details and the little things that makes a difference when put together. Every change comes with a purpose and is driven by a desire to engineer a sports car that adds thrill and adventure to your everyday driving. Our engineers at Stuttgart have really outperformed themselves, raising the bar once again for the 911. From the exceedingly positive response towards the 911, we can only expect sales to grow,” said Dr. Henrik Dreier, General Manager Singapore of Porsche Asia Pacific.
‘At Porsche, there are no limits – only boundaries waiting to be pushed. Higher efficiency, greater sprinting power, and instant response to acceleration are just some of the improvement that you can expect from this new model range. This is the result when skilled engineers invest their best efforts into continuously improving a concept and making it better than ever. As always, we place an unwavering emphasis on our tradition and heritage even as we move steadily towards the future. The new 911 retains much of the character and disposition of its predecessor, but it is equipped with enough new features for it to firmly qualify as a sports car of the future. With the new 911 range, we are even more well-equipped than ever to sustain our competitive edge,” said Mr. Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Eurokars Group.
